Fat Thursday on a Saturday Online
Signpost to Polish Success invites you to once again celebrate Fat Thursday, this time online, a day when Polish people across the world consume doughnuts before starting to fast for Lent. Join us to learn more about Polish culture and customs with online arts and craft activities and fun for all the family, in Polish and in English.
This year we are drawing inspiration from Pucheroki, an ancient folk custom celebrated on Palm Sunday in and around Krakow. It started many centuries ago out of necessity – poor students often knocked on the door of rich townspeople, begging for donations or food. To make the collection more diverse and fun, the students dressed up in weird costumes and wore high, conical hats made of multicoloured paper and ribbons. Tune in for this online workshop and learn how to make your own Pucheroki hat with us!
This workshop will be live streamed online on NAE's YouTube channel and on East Midlands Po Polsku's Facebook page. So you can join in the fun from your own home.
For this activity you will need the following materials:
• 1 party cone hat (per child/participant)
• Crêpe paper or tissue paper in various colours
• Glue stick
We can provide a limited number of ready-made kits with free materials needed for this activity. To receive the materials please book one ticket for each participating child. The packs can be picked up at the Signpost to Polish Success office (Forest Rd W, NG7 4EP) from the 2nd February, collections on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9.30-11am.
